Whitchurch and Ganarew Neighbourhood Plan

Welcome to the Whitchurch and Ganarew Neighbourhood Development Plan.

Neighbourhood planning is a key part of the 2011 Localism Act. The objective is to give local communities greater power to shape development in their area by having a direct role in planning policies. For example, where new homes and businesses can be built and what they should look like.

Following on from our 2014 Parish Plan, our Parish Council formed a Steering Group from local people to draft a Neighbourhood Plan for our Parish which, if accepted, will provide us with an opportunity to influence the shape and character of Whitchurch and Ganarew Group Parish in years to come.

Once we have satisfied the requirements of the key stages of the regulations governing Neighbourhood Development Plans (NDPs) and our Plan is agreed by the community in a formal Referendum and adopted by Herefordshire County Council, we will be able to advise on:

  • Where and what development should take place.

  • Establishing formal settlement boundaries for the Parish

  • Controlling development in the open countryside beyond.

  • Policies on design standards.

  • Protecting our AONB, biodiversity, landscape, views and vistas.

  • Protecting important buildings and historic assets.

  • Promoting community projects such as renewable energy

We have now reached Regulation 14 stage of the process and have published a draft Plan for consultation with the local community.

Discuss the Plan with Steering Group Members at The Memorial Hall

Saturday 21/4/18 and Saturday 5/5/18, 10.00 am to 2.00 pm.
